About Us

Aletheia (Greek: á¼€λήθεια; meaning truth) is a member journal of the Augustine Collective, a group of student-led academic journals at college campuses across the country seeking to foster thoughtful and meaningful dialogue around the Christian faith.

Mission Statement

Aletheia seeks to explore, through a variety of mediums, the implications of Christian thought within the interdisciplinary space of Cal Poly. (July 2020)

Vision Statement

We believe that life’s biggest questions, the desires of the human heart, and the hope for a better world are all answered through the person and work of Jesus Christ. We also believe in the importance of rigorous and ethical academic thought, the value of Cal Poly’s multidisciplinary approach towards raising future leaders, and thinkers, and the desire to engage the world around us. Here at the Cal Poly Aletheia, we believe all of these values collide to inform each other and deepen our understanding of what it means to be human.

We recognize Cal Poly’s distinct identity as a polytechnic school, producing some of the most workplace-ready and technically specified college graduates in the nation. Furthermore, we acknowledge Cal Poly has been described as “the most Christian secular university in the West.” We, therefore, aim to serve our campus’s unique cultural climate by offering a Christian voice to the academy and an academic voice to Christianity. We strive to kindle the imagination, to spark analytical dialogue, and to contravene, by way of the gospel, the sectarianism observed in today’s world. Our desire is that fellow students and faculty will join us as we search for truth, with humility, sincerity, and genuine friendship. We hope this journal does not become a soapbox but serves as a thoughtful space for Christian perspectives and their implications for our lives. (July 2020)
